Shine the Divine:

Creativity IS a Spiritual Practice

When we see through our hearts, we recognize that every single one of us is infused with creativity. Divine Sparks are embedded in everyone and everything. It's up to us to be courageous, to look and listen deeply, to find the sparks, gather and release them back into the universe, transformed into something new. Join me as we wake up to the sacred-ordinary blessings waiting to greet us each and every day.

It's a brilliant New Hampshire morning. A blanket of snow and patches of sunlight outside my window. My dog is cuddled up on the couch and the two of us are warmed by the ever humming pellet stove. Somehow, in NH the shortest month of the year (February) seems unending. Beautiful yes, but up here in the north spring is still at least 3 months away. We've lived here for 8 years now, and still I am awed by the length and strength of winter. I enjoy the tucking in, the quiet of the day-time to contemplate, meditate and investigate the creative possibilities that bubble up inside of me. I dream, I paint, I collage, and practice yoga. I read, study ancient (and not so ancient) texts. I prepare for the classes I will teach Sunday and Monday. I connect with my friends throughout the country via internet (and occasional phone calls).

My community is widespread. Sometimes the physical distance is painful-I want to be in the same room with friends and my family of origin. Other times I see the blessing afforded by distance. I am learning that by writing out our thoughts to one another, the ability to "listen" is improved. There is space and silence between comments. Time to take in the words-time for a thoughtful response. True, the language offered by bodies shifting, eye contact, and facial expression are missing. (I am certainly a visually oriented being) Yet, the wisdom found in the silence is immeasurable-it opens up another realm in which relationships can exist.

  1. It is amazing how different our lives are - I am constantly surrounded by people, business, Non-quiet, bustling of the city, etc, and yet, I feel close and connected to you when I read have given me an image to envision when i think of positive solitude and quiet! Thank you!

  2. Hi Nahomey,
I'm happy to offer the verbal visual-to make that connection with you-I feel it when I look at your myspace page and listen to you sing. I have to warn you though, when you come to visit it won't be so quiet around here! The girls will be home-a completely different energy will fill this space. Maybe a little of this gentler vibe will endure upstairs in my meditation/yoga space. We can make SoulCollage cards up there, in my hideaway.
