Metta Monday: Links to My Heart

May I feel safe.
May I feel happy.
May I feel strong.
May I live with ease.

Today I'm aware of connections linked directly to my heart. Everything I feel right now flows from experiences that happened before. Each breath from the past inspired this moment of discovery. That does not mean I am not present to this breath, but rather, I recognize that I am continuously connected to the last one...and so too am I linked to the one that will follow. There is a wholeness, an eternity in each breath. You might want to give this gentle practice a try for just 5 minutes at a time to start:

Breathe out...

May I feel safe.

Breathe in...

May I feel happy.

Breathe out...

May I feel strong.

Breath in...

May I live with ease.

Your body remembers safe...your heart remembers happy...your mind remembers strong...your soul knows ease. Whether or not you are feeling safe, happy, strong or easy in a given breath is not essential because deep within, you hold memories of these feelings in your body. The simple act of turning your attention toward your heart, breath by breath with a blessing, a wish for the feeling of safety, happiness, strength or ease, will allow those feelings to rise to the surface. The practice opens you to the possibility of feeling them again...right now, or very soon. No matter what, friendly wishes will create a space for healing within the wholeness of your being.

My hand is feeling better, but not 100% yet. The shadowy mood from Saturday and Sunday passed too with the cloud covered skies, as we all knew it would. I am happy. Mostly there were just lots and lots of tasks that had to get done this weekend. I was feeling overwhelmed which compounded with my usual MS fatigue to create that sensation of wheels turning and being caught in a single frame of time unable to move forward, but I did. Thank you everyone for your kind well-wishes. It felt as though I was receiving metta blessings from all around the world as your comments arrived in my in-box this weekend. I have no doubt that your generous wise words contributed to bringing me back to feeling centered this morning:)

May you feel safe.
May you feel happy.
May you feel strong.
May you live with ease

KINDNESS IS POWERFUL

With deep gratitude to Sylvia Boorstein for teaching me this particular phrasing of a metta prayer.

  1. Metta became one of my favorite practices too after I learned it during Jan Lundy's 28 Meditation Challenge in January. Never fails to calm me.

    Hope your hand heals quickly!
