for me and you
my Mother and yours
our grandmothers
our daughters who are
or will someday be mommas
for our granddaughters too
for mommas of children born of us
for mommas of blessings who have entered our lives through adoption
officially or through unusual means
for mothers whose kids are the 4 legged furry variety
or 2 legged and feathered
for Mother Earth who succors us all
for older sisters who have mothered us from time to time
for aunts and dear friends and mothers-in-law
who have listened when our own mothers could not
for whatever reason
for all mommas full of love I offer these simple words:
thank you
for simply being who YOU are
for birthing us
for being in our lives
for supporting us
for allowing us to grow
into the beautiful women we are
in this very moment
to my Mom:
These lilacs are for you. Remember the ones Owen, Amy, Pam and I planted outside your bedroom window with Daddy's help when we were little? The lilacs above are in my garden now and make me think of you with each breath of their sweet fragrance. So I'm sending them to you virtually this morning. Take a deep breath and imagine you can smell them too.
I love you.
(ps I smell banana chocolate chip pancakes wafting up the stairs...my kids love me too!)
Happy mothers day to you too :)

ReplyDeleteI do hope that you had a wonderful Mother's Day. Thank you for being such an incredible individual. It would be so easy for you to just back away from the world because of all that you must live with, but instead, you share so much of yourself and make the lives of others better. I truly appreciate having you in my life. I hope that someday, we will be able to connect by phone!
Much love,
Deb

ReplyDeleteFunny, while reading now I can smell banana chocolate-chip pancakes ...and it's almost Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteBTW, we have a very productive Angel Trumpet bush/tree--and LOVE it! the scent is reminiscent of Night-blooming Jasmine and honeysuckle combined, real heavy, hangs in the air on a hot summer night.
We must enjoy God's gifts as He gives them.
