Grateful for LIFE

This is one of my favorite sunset photos, the image holds deep joy for me. Because it is my birthday I decided to share it with all of you. I'm 46. Three summers ago, Gordon and I celebrated our 20th anniversary with a weekend of hiking in the White Mountains. I was quite the hiker back then. At 43 and in great shape I couldn't have imagined that in just three years, our stairs would become mountains to climb. We were so happy that weekend, perfect weather, the kids were staying with family, just the two of us and a lovely B&B. But life changes. We are still happy together, our love even stronger now, which I also could not have imagined then, as we were so deeply in love at that time. I am a blessed woman, I know this, and I am deeply grateful to the Holy One of Being for all that has been given to me.

I have a lot of people to thank for this life of sweetness that I have been blessed with, including my husband, my sisters and brother, my daughters my whole big extended family and many friends, but the two I wish to honor today are my parents, without whom I would not ever have seen that breathtaking mountain view three years ago, or this morning's sunrise. I love you Mom and Dad, more than words can express, I was going to post a photo of the two of you, but then I though perhaps you would not want me to, because you like your privacy. Happy Birthing Day Mom... it is sunny and beautiful, the way you have described my first day of life to me many times before.

This week in our Khanti Healing Circle I introduced the concept of writing one gratitude statement a day on an index card to keep in a box or basket that is always accessible. If we do this practice daily, then in moments of despair we will have a whole treasure trove of moments to remind us of the goodness of our lives right at our finger tips.

In this moment I am grateful for my life, for it is abundant in love and blessings.

  15. My Dear Friend, Mentor, Inspiration, Coach, Soul Sister ...and more -- Happy Birthday. This is for you.

Alas, there came a day when the sun's energy grew weak and the earth grew a bit darker and wept.

"Without the sun's rays," said the trees, "we will not be able to continue growing and stand tall."

"Without the sun's rays," said the flowering plants, "we will not be able to blossom and paint the landscape with our fragrant colors."

"Without the sun's rays," said the children, "we will not be able to run and play in happiness and joy."

Sadness crept around the earth bringing sadness and malaise to all the living things as the sun helplessly watched from afar.

"What can I do," the sun cried? "I must find a way to gain strength and bring healing light back to earth again."

The sun sat quietly contemplating the challenge before it. Silence pervaded the space and so the sun meditated in this silence with hope, love and a strong sense of believing.

As the meditation continued, a small tiny spark of light became visible to the sun and a small tiny perfect voice could be heard singing in the distance. The sun turned its meditation toward the light and song. The sun gave its entire focus to the light and song. Very slowly at first strength began to return ... and warmth began to fill the sun's space. As the sun held its focus, the strength and warmth grew. Darkness began to dissipate. The trees began to stand taller as the kaleidoscopic landscape painted by the beautiful colors of the flowers summoned children outside to laugh and play in the delicious beauty that is earth.

By the time the sun's meditation ended, all was well in the universe again. The sun blessed, honored and thanked the tiny divine spark and beautiful voice for all that she had done and though she indeed felt blessed and honored, she never knew that she had been the tiny spark of light and perfect song. She never knew just how much she had contributed to the earth that day. Because of her, the earth returned from darkness and despair to bathe in the warm healing waters of light, love, inspiration and belief.

Happy Birthday, Laura with my love, -- Sharon

  49. Oh, Happy Belated Birthday sweet Laura! I loved this post where you honor your loved ones and give thanks for having them in your life as they themselves are blessed also to have you in theirs. I agree with you that getting into the habit of giving thanks to one thing a day, one thing that you feel you are blessed by, it begins to change your view of life. Sometimes we can get so easily caught up in the things that we do not have that we forget to acknowledge those things that we already have to see for ourselves how truly blessed we already are. We all walk different roads in life and our particular roads are filled with bushes that bloom lovely flowers that brings us joy but it is also filled with brambles that prick and make us bleed. Such is life, yin/yang, positive/negative, light/dark. We are met with both and it is our goal to learn to balance them and not give way to too much on one than the other.

btw, I love how you've redone your page!

    Much love,
    Rebecca
