Lilac buds are announcing their presence to New Hampshire, where we have been waiting many months for their arrival.
If you look closely at the top right branch you might notice that two buds, side by side form a heart shape. Even though each is (will blossom into) a flower of its own, in this photo they are interdependent upon one another to create the unified heart we see in the image.

I am thinking about this today, considering our presence in the world (my presence in the world) and how we claim our right to be here with the wholeness of our hearts. I am thinking about how I have changed and grown and blossomed through the years. I am thinking about loss and love and freedom. I am thinking about how the earth and sky and God, a friend, a lover, a child and our own self-awareness are witnesses to this declaration, to this claiming of our right to be here, the necessity of our presence in the world at this exact moment, just the way we are, flawed and beautiful. I am thinking about how each and every day we must do the same for others; bear witness to their existence to their right to be here, perfectly imperfect, whole in their brokenness. With each inhalation we experience life entering us…oxygen fills our lungs, but also the breath of every other being who has lived and breathed becomes one with us. With each exhalation we say hineni, here I am, and give a trace of our essence to all of life through our own breath in return, interdependent, individuals becoming one through the simple rhythm of breathing in and out.
I have missed visiting you on your blogs this past week, witnessing your growth, your stories, your beauty. I will be stopping by slowly, sipping the sweetness of your posts with deep appreciation and awareness, being as present to you as I can be, one blog, one email message, one breath at a time.
PS. Today is the last day to make a donation to
For Japan With Love, a disaster relief blogging fundraiser through Shelter Box. The generosity of many bloggers joining together as one has raised enough to shelter 62 families in Japan so far. The original goal, was to be able to help 5 families. Thank you so much to everyone who participated, you still have time if you haven't yet. ReplyDeleteTake your time, sweet friend. Like the fragile blossoms that you so beautifully photographed, we must be gentle with ourselves in order to grow.
ReplyDeleteLove you, Laura.
Deb
Beautiful post packed with a comforting message.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize that about lilacs. The heart bud is pretty. I like the interdependence part. In order for human relationships to grow and bear fruit also, I think we need to be interdependent also.
A strong marriage is when the two hearts intwine.
I love how the heart message abounds in the universe, Laura. And I love that you capture it.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to smell the lilac again.
What a gentle reminder to see those around me. To really look and see, people with full lives and interesting stories, beautiful in their brokeness with the right to be here. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the thoughts about interdependence...you stir my soul with the depth of your words.
ReplyDeleteNo hurry, no worry, take your time to breathe.
Love to come by and read your inspirational thoughts dear Laura. Yes indeed, everything alive has the right to be here, whether it is humans, animals or even plants. And they all have something to show us or to teach us, just like your beuatiful bud did.;)
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day and enjoy the first signs of spring.;)
xoxo
Wonderful capture against the blue sky. Great post.
ReplyDeleteYour thoughts are always insirational. For today I'll try to focus more on my breath - one at a time.
ReplyDeleteA heartful of love to you, Laura. I'm looking for the buds here, not yet, but I hope they will come soon. The birds are building nests though, and that is a lovely sign.
ReplyDeleteLove the notion of "hineni," here I am. Your words here are so powerful, us breathing life into one another by our pure presence of beingness. I am very glad to have read this this morning.
May you have a glorious day...
What blissful shots! I see a heart-shaped bud!
ReplyDeleteOnce again you have filled my heart and inspired my soul. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for linking with Guest Heart Thursday. Budding hearts, full of promise!
Hi Laura, the lilac branches look so pretty against the sky and I love the heart you found! :)
ReplyDeleteOur lilacs are in fat bud right now as well and offer hope and fresh breath even as spring doles out her bounty with stingy hands this year. It's easier to focus on simple, singular blessings, isn't it, when the landscape remains stark. Hugs to you my friend.
ReplyDeleteA spring heart...so pretty :)
ReplyDeleteI miss lilacs...

ReplyDeleteHiya Laura,
ReplyDeleteHaving great trouble to accept my 'brokenness' at the moment, I must say.
After yet another diagnosis that is hard to live with. Hopefully acceptance will arrive sometime soon. Missed your visits.
Hope the buds will make it through the bouts of bad weather.
Hi Laura, our lilacs are budding, too, and it's so delightful to see them. Terrific shot for the day! Hope you have a wonderful weekend! Spring is on it's way!!

Someone else who has been examining the lilacs, looking for new growth! I had not realized that some of the buds came in heart shapes, though!
ReplyDeleteThis is very lovely, Laura.
ReplyDeleteLaura, I feel the same way about missing blogs when other things call my time away from the majestic computer friend land. But we are ever together in hearts joined.
ReplyDeleteWe have an early spring here in Texas, as I've shown, and you've obviously known for most of your life. But we do not have lilacs and I dearly dearly miss them, more than any other plant since I left Canada.
Sweetness, love and light to you always.
Your image of breaths mingling love is priceless.
ReplyDeleteTo Japan, to us all.
Love seeing these buds - especially the heart shaped one.
