Keep The Kettle On

keep the kettle on
cold drizzle dissolves the snow
sorrow enters sits

spoonful of sugar
sweet comforting companion
as tears salt the tea

love waits patiently
the medicine we all need
abiding friendship

sometimes just the weight
shared across a table’s enough
keep the kettle on

I have practiced being an attentive listener with others. I pray this has served them well, it most certainly has done so for me, for being wholeheartedly present has taught me much about compassion and companionable silence.

More often than not, I am the guest, the table my own heart.

A gift for you...

Below is a special podcast link from The Healing Womb, a mindfulness practice for sitting with strong emotions. Like many here in the United States, I have been active in signing petitions, doing what I can to support positive changes in our country, since the horrific shootings in Connecticut. I've been praying for the survivors, the families, our nation, and suffering all around the world. I've also been staying with and observing the emotions that arise and pass in my consciousness when I sit in formal meditation and throughout each day. This podcast grew out of my personal practice and is a gift I offer you. Included is a reading of the poem above as well as some thoughts on tending our emotions, whatever they happen to be, with lovingkindness grounded in the present moment.

This podcast is just under 5 minutes,  please sit as long as you need to.

While it is important to be mindful of our experience so that we have the courage and strength to care for ourselves, may this inner work guide us wisely to reach out from our grief to do the work of bringing about meaningful, compassionate change. 9. Ah, I LOVE these hearts--especially that snow heart. (grin) Thank you for your blessings and prayers, sweet Laura. May the Creator's gentle hand fill your heart with love and joy. ((hugs))

Yes, I'm breathing--sometimes it does feel like so much is going on, that I can't get my breath. But things will slow soon. I shall look forward to a time of rest. Hopefully soon.
