releasing to form

a fresh layer of snow cleanses remnants of mischievous dreams
from bed i observe powder swirling fast past the window
preparing white spacious possibility

this is what i feel weighted comfortably down
a heap of winter blankets slow sunday morning freedom
still but for the movement of breath and eyes attempting to trace

the path of frost faerie pirouettes across the roof open
wide to the edge of ripe emptiness another year yet to be written
the precipice of what’s to come mysteriously emergent same as

last night’s moon obscured by clouds and cold precipitation
i knew it was there bright behind caliginous curtain
certain tomorrow will dawn with or without me

a promise faith encourages me to believe
and experience too witnessing many a sun sinking
early light’s return through hardwood forest upon waking

some vibrant just as often a smooth porcelain or nickel view
glimpsed between warp and weft trunks and branches
telling time as they lengthen twist or break

sun and moon will trade their
tenor one more luminous the other dimmed
dependable unlike beguiling snow squall dancers

perishable pages of saturated memory dissolve into yesterday
fading while icicles weep releasing to form something new
the ink of another year barely dried spreads soft

Wishing you all
a wonder-full
New Year of
spaciousness
possibility
softness
peace

goodbye 2012
hello 2013

  1. Beautiful photos (love the close-up of icicle) and words. Icicles are beautiful only for a short time until they melt away. Nice to have your words preserve them longer....

Happy new Year to you, and thanks for taking part in Poetry Pantry this year.
