I set down the bowl of
warm tears I’d been collecting
(expecting they were
only for me) for there was
a timid tapping on the
backdoor of my heart;
so soft it did not
register at first.
Listening deeper to be
certain I
drew back the curtain
and there
she was. Her timing
impeccable!
I welcomed her in,
took another bowl down from the
cupboard, two spoons
from a drawer,
two napkins from a
basket;
they work just as well
as tissues, don’t you know.
We sat and poured out
our stories in equal measure.
There was plenty of
comfort to share as we sipped
and sniffled and giggled
at the good fortune
of not having to bear
another day all by ourselves;
Loneliness came to
visit, you see?

a different window
could open the heart in new
unexpected ways
|
Sometimes I get comfortable looking through the same window.
Staying the course, observing the changes that happen on their own is an
admirable practice. What if, every once in a while instead of waiting for the
light and clouds to shift, I moved and looked at life through a different
window; same sky, new perspective?

Dramatic black and white sky.
ReplyDeleteTruly beautiful poem and the photos are breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteDeep words and beautiful pics. Great post.
ReplyDeletethe poem and images are superb - I have a real thing about trees at dawn/twilight and these are beautiful. Also - as an aside - I also love clicking on your name and seeing that beautiful leaf appear! Makes my day, especially at this time of year!
ReplyDeleteLaura, I enjoyed your poem.
ReplyDeleteLoneliness coming for a visit...making the other less lonely - that is how I interpret it. And I find this thought both comforting and imaginative.
I enjoyed your photos as usual too!
This just touched my heart Laura
ReplyDeleteAs always, your posts are a feast for the eyes and the soul. The colors of what you see out your window are just spectacular. Wow! I love the poem about loneliness, and how the narrator befriended it. But I LOVE what you say about expanding the view through a bigger window.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of what a Buddhist speaker told us once at a conscious living, conscious dying workshop - that sometimes we look through a small window and see only a sky full of gray clouds. But if we expand our vision and look through a bigger window, we'll see some blue sky just beyond the small window's frame, that we would have missed had we stuck with the smaller window..........
Laura! Oh, I needed this poem today. Absolutely Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAs I've said before, when I come here, I feel...washed in compassion and understanding. I've used different words but these stick, too.
What a lovely, evocative poem. I think one of your best I have read. There is such humanity in it, and what strikes me about your poetry is the universality of it all. Responsive to the human condition. There is nothing I can crit in this, because it is true, flowing and goes deep into my heart.
Lady Nyo
Sometimes perspective is everything, with spiritual and physical eyes.
ReplyDeleteYour opening line is my kind of poetry. I really enjoyed this and the colours of the sky in your photos are spectacular.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful post altogether.
ReplyDeleteChills of recognition chased each other up and down my arms as I read this evocative poem of yours, Laura. I dip my hands into your bowl of tears, wash my face, then dry our faces with the fluffy clouds falling out of the sky, and know we are all One ... Namaste.
ReplyDeleteOh Laura! This is so lovely. Thank you. I'm glad I had time today to come back and catch up with too many missed posts. This was too good to miss.
